This road trip combines Assam's wildlife with Meghalaya's waterfalls and living root bridges. From Guwahati you head straight to Kaziranga National Park, home of the one-horned rhinoceros, for an early jungle safari before driving up to Shillong.
In Meghalaya you take in the deep gorges of Laitlum Grand Canyon and Phe Phe Falls, then camp beside the glass-clear Umngot river at Shnongpdeng. After water activities and a visit to Mawlynnong village, you move to Cherrapunjee to trek to the Single and Double Decker root bridges and see Mawsmai Caves, Nohkalikai and Lyngksiar falls. The trip ends at Umiam Lake on the way back to Guwahati.

Your day-by-day itinerary
01Day 1: Day 1: Guwahati to Kaziranga
Arrive in Guwahati and drive to Kaziranga National Park. Evening at leisure near the park. Overnight in Kaziranga.
02Day 2: Day 2: Kaziranga Safari – Drive to Shillong
Early morning jungle safari to spot rhinos, elephants and wild buffalo. Then drive to Shillong. Overnight in Shillong.
03Day 3: Day 3: Laitlum Canyon, Phe Phe Falls and Shnongpdeng
Visit Laitlum Grand Canyon and Phe Phe Falls, then continue to Shnongpdeng for a riverside camp. Overnight in camp.
04Day 4: Day 4: Water Activities, Mawlynnong and Cherrapunjee
Enjoy boating or kayaking on the Umngot river, visit Mawlynnong village and drive to Cherrapunjee. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
05Day 5: Day 5: Living Root Bridges Trek
Trek from Tyrna to the Single Root Bridge and the Double Decker root bridge at Nongriat. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
06Day 6: Day 6: Cherrapunjee Caves and Waterfalls
Visit Mawsmai Cave, Nohkalikai Falls, Lyngksiar Falls and the viewpoints over Bangladesh. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
07Day 7: Day 7: Umiam Lake – Departure
Drive back towards Guwahati, stopping at Umiam Lake. Drop at Guwahati airport or station.
