Best Time to Visit Goa: Season-by-Season Guide

When is the best time to visit Goa? Peak season beaches and parties, the cheaper shoulder months, monsoon greenery and waterfalls, festivals and prices.

Travel GuidesIndia holiday planning

Goa is a year-round destination, but the experience changes completely with the season.

Peak Season: November to February

Sunny skies, calm seas, 22–32°C. Every shack, club and water-sport operator is open. Christmas and New Year are the busiest – see our Goa Christmas and New Year guide.

Best for: beaches, parties, water sports, first-time visitors.

Shoulder Season: October and March–May

  • October: the monsoon fades, shacks are setting up, prices are reasonable.
  • March: warm but pleasant; Holi and Shigmo celebrations.
  • April–May: hot and humid (up to 35°C), fewer tourists, good hotel deals. Seas are still swimmable.

Best for: budget travellers, couples wanting quiet beaches.

Monsoon: June to September

Heavy rain, rough seas (swimming is unsafe and water sports are suspended), but Goa turns lush green. Waterfalls like Dudhsagar come alive (access depends on monsoon restrictions), spice plantations and the hinterland are beautiful, and luxury resorts offer big discounts. The Sao Joao festival in late June is a highlight.

Best for: nature lovers, staycations, value luxury.

Festivals

  • Goa Carnival – February/March, parades in Panjim and Margao
  • Shigmo – March, spring festival with floats
  • Sao Joao – June 24, monsoon feast with well-jumping
  • Feast of St Francis Xavier – December 3, Old Goa
  • Christmas and New Year
