The trek from Yuksom to Goechala is one of the most celebrated high-altitude treks in India. It takes you through rhododendron forests, yak pastures and glacial lakes to a viewpoint facing the massive east face of Kanchenjunga. It is challenging, but deeply rewarding for prepared trekkers.
Yuksom – The Starting Point
Yuksom, in West Sikkim at about 1,780 metres, was Sikkim's first capital. Before or after the trek, visit:
- Norbugang Coronation Throne, where the first Chogyal was crowned in 1642.
- Dubdi Monastery, one of Sikkim's oldest.
- Kathok Lake, sacred to locals.
Yuksom is about 4–5 hours from Pelling's surroundings and 6–7 hours from Bagdogra or NJP.
